LUBBOCK, Texas – The UT Arlington track and field team concluded a successful weekend at the Texas Tech Open and Multis on Saturday afternoon at the Indoor Performance Center.
All-American
Bryson DeBerry placed second in the high jump with a season-high jump of 2.18, good for the fifth best jump in the nation thus far this season. It eclipses his previous best of 2.18 at the Ted Nelson Invtational earlier this season.
The Mavericks got a tremendous performance from junior
Marquentin Barnes in the mile as he won the event with a new personal record of 4:14.88.
On the women's side, it was freshman
Iyana Gray again as she set a personal best in the 200, finishing fourth at the meet with a time of 24.01.
On Day 1, Joel Bengtsson and Jade Bontke took down school record, while Gray put together an outstanding performance in the 60.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Jarvis Miles and Adam Herrera each hit PR marks in the 200 anf 400. Miles ran a 21.83 and 48.94, respectively. Herrera ran a 22.50 and 49.80, respectively.
- Tatyana Terrell placed 15th in the 200 and also set a PR in the event at 24.48. Adeyemi Talabi also PR'd at 24.69.
- Three sprinters are now in the Top 8 of the Sun Belt in the 200 in Gray (2nd), Terrell (6th), and Talabi (8th).
- Amelia Patterson hit a new PR in both the long jump and triple jump, going for 5.65 in the long and 12.06 in the triple.
- The women's 4x400 team of Jade Bontke, Shelby West, Gray, and Terrell PR'd in the event with a time of 3:48.89.
UTA will have its final tuneups before the conference championships as they head back to Bryan-College Station to compete in the Charlie Thomas Invitational on Feb. 4 and 5.
