Men's Tennis Opens ITA Regionals Thursday

WACO, Texas– Members of the UT Arlington men's tennis team are getting ready to compete in the ITA Division I Texas Regional Championships from Oct. 13-17 at Baylor University.

Ricardo Alban, Solano Caffarena, Daichi Akiyoshi, and Anton Shepp are set to play in the qualifying rounds on Thursday at 9, 10:30, and 11 a.m., while Bautista Vilicich and Santiago Giamichelle will be competing in the main draw starting on Friday.

Vilicich and Giamichelle will play doubles together, opening with a bye. Alban and Akiyoshi will play Max Amling and Filippo Salsini from Lamar University, and Caffarena and Shepp will be competing against Christopher Frantzen and Marko Miladinovic from Baylor. All doubles matches will start on Friday with the finals set for Tuesday.

Alban is set to compete against Garrett Skelly and Akiyoshi against Danijal Muminovic, both from UT San Antonio. Caffarena will face Eli Susser from Southern Methodist, and Shepp will face Sam Whitehead from UT Rio Grande Valley.

This tournament is a huge opportunity for the Mavericks to earn regional points for Texas, which would boost the team's national rankings. Both the singles and doubles finalists would get the chance to compete in the ITA National Tournament.

If a player loses the first round, the one-round of the qualifying consolation bracket will be played on Thursday and the main draw consolation bracket will be played on Saturday.
