LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – From El Paso, the UT Arlington softball team will head to Las Cruces after the Mavericks' midweek matchup at UTEP was canceled due to inclement weather Wednesday night.
The Mavs sit on an 0-4 overall record heading into New Mexico State's Troy Cox Classic beginning Thursday (Feb. 17) as UTA is set to face Northern Colorado, Iowa State, Southeastern Louisiana, Nebraska and host, New Mexico State.
UTA will commence tournament action with one game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. to take on the New Mexico State Aggies.
The Mavs will open Friday's play with a 2:00 p.m. start against Northern Colorado before taking to the diamond again to face Iowa State at 7:00 p.m.
UTA will wrap up Troy Cox Classic action Saturday with a double header beginning at 9:00 a.m. against Southeastern Louisiana followed by Nebraska at 11:30 a.m.

UTA NOTES (0-4)
- Last time the Mavericks were out on the field, it was opening weekend in College Station at the Aggie Classic (Feb. 11-13) as they took two losses from Texas A&M, one from Western Kentucky and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
- Graduate student KJ Murphy paced UTA's offense over the course of the tournament going 4-10 (.400) at the plate across 10 at-bats.
- In the circle, freshman transfer Jessica Adams threw 12 innings over the weekend for the Mavericks where she threw a complete game against TAMU – Corpus Christi that went into extra innings (8).
- Adams leads the four-player pitching staff with an ERA of 4.08.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT- New Mexico State (0-3)
- The Aggies are coming off an 0-3 weekend as they took two losses to Texas State (2-10, 2-14) that both ended in five innings. New Mexico State fell to Oregon State 0-12 that also ended in a run-rule.
- Freshman Yazzy Avila leads the squad with a .375 average at the plate, 3 hits and a .444 on-base percentage.
- Following Avila is senior Kayla Bowen. Bowen sits on a .333 batting average with two hits on the season so far.
- In the circle, Laurali Patane (4.2 IP), Felicia De La Torre (4.2 IP) and Jordin King (4.1 IP) all shared time over the weekend pitching at least four innings for the Aggies. Bowen made an appearance in both games against Texas State and threw 1.1 innings.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT- Northern Colorado (1-4)
- The Bears wrapped up their opening weekend going 1-4 as they took four losses to Kansas (1-7), Grand Canyon (0-8), Bradley (3-6) and Fordham (2-3). Northern Colorado did come away with a win coming from its second contest against Bradley (10-1).
- Freshman Jenna Kobernick paces the Bears' offense with a .444 batting average as she went 4-9 over the weekend.
- Graduate student Kaileigh Holland tabbed five RBI across the five games played with three of those coming from Northern Colorado's 10-1 win over Bradley. Holland follows Kobernick closely with a .417 average on the season.
- On the mound, Erin Caviness leads the Bear pitching staff with 9.0 innings pitched, a 2.33 ERA and 12 strikeouts. Caviness recorded eight strikeouts in Northern Colorado's contest against Fordham across six innings
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT- Iowa State (4-1)
- The Cyclones opened their 2022 season at the DOC Halverson Uni-Dome Classic in Cedar Falls, Iowa where the team went 4-1with wins from Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, Nebraska and Omaha. Iowa State fell short to Drake 6-7 on the final day of the tournament.
- Outfielder Milaysia Ochoa leads the Cyclone's offense with a .389 average at the plate, 5 RBI, 7 hits, 2 doubles and a .500 slugging percentage.
- On the mound, Saya Swain has recorded a total of 19 strikeouts so far this season with 17 of those coming from Iowa State's 5-4 victory over Northern Iowa. The sophomore sits on a 2-0 record with 10.0 innings pitched.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT- Southeastern Louisiana (3-0)
- The Lions hosted Southwest Missouri and Alabama A&M as part of the two-day Lion Classic last weekend to kick of the season where the squad went 3-0.
- Freshman Maddie Watson finished the weekend going 5-10 at the plate with five and one homerun – which came from the Lions' win over Missouri State.
- Lexi Johnson knocked two bombs tallying five RBI as the sophomore batted .400 across 10 at-bats.
- With a low 1.40 ERA, senior pitcher Heather Zumo leads the Lions' staff in innings pitched (10.0) and strikeouts (7).
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT- Nebraska (2-3)
- Nebraska is coming off a 2-3 weekend as the Huskers joined Iowa State at the DOC Halverson Uni-Dome Classic. The Huskers picked up two wins from the weekend with losses from Northern Iowa (1-2) and Iowa State (3-7).
- Sydney Gray sits on a.357 batting average as she tabbed five RBI going 3-3 at the plate in Nebraska's win over Drake.
- Sophomore Abbie Squier leads the squad with a .938 slugging percentage, 2 home runs, 4 RBI and a .500 batting average.
- In the circle for the Huskers, senior Courtney Wallace paces the pitching staff with a low 1.62 ERA, 17 innings pitched and 17 strike outs. Wallace pitched a complete game in Nebraska's 6-1 victory versus Omaha.
