Softball Prepares For Back-To-Back Midweek Matchups

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team (6-11) looks to compete in back-to-back midweek games at Incarnate Word Tuesday, March 15 followed by No. 13 Oklahoma State on Wednesday, March 16 at Allan Saxe Field.

The Mavericks are scheduled to face Incarnate Word in San Antonio at 4 p.m. before heading back to Arlington to take on the Cowgirls at home with the first pitch set for 6 p.m.
 
UTA looks to bounce back this week after coming off a tough conference opening weekend as the Mavs dropped all three games to South Alabama. The Mavericks struggled on both sides of the game uncharacteristically committing seven errors throughout the weekend.

UTA NOTES (6-11)
  • The Mavs went 0-4 last week as UTA took a midweek loss (0-2) to Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday, March 8 before going 0-3 in its first conference series against South Alabama.
  • Freshman Aaliyah White leads the team with a .406 batting average. White has knocked 13 hits across 13 games started with the third-highest number of RBI on the team (7).
  • Shortstop Jadyn Erickson follows White closely with a .371 average at the plate.
  • KJ Murphy and Reagan Hukill both share 10 RBI apiece – most of the Mavs – with Murphy leading the team in hits (17), walks (9) and runs scored (9).
  • On the mound for UTA, Jessica Adams (4-7) mains the pitching rotation with 64.0 innings pitched. The freshman has struck out 35 batters as she sits on a 3.50 ERA.
 
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT – Incarnate Word (7-14)
  • UTA leads the overall record with Incarnate Word 7-0 with the latest matchup ended in a 9-0 run-rule victory over the Cardinals back in March of 2018.
  • The Cardinals (7-14) are coming off a doubleheader sweep over Abilene Christian on March 8 with final scores of 3-1 and 5-4.
  • Freshman Ryleigh Mata paces the Cardinal offense with a .436 batting average with 27 hits on the season so far.
  • Avalon Sanchez holds a team-high 19 RBI while sophomore Maddie Boldt has notched 9 home runs, 13 RBI and an .845 slugging percentage.
  • Junior pitcher Ashley Trapp leads the Cardinal pitching staff with 43 strike outs across 35.1 innings. In 12 appearances, Trapp sits on a 3.37 ERA.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT – No. 13 Oklahoma State (16-5)
  • Oklahoma State has had a strong start to the 2022 season as the Cowgirls are 16-5 so far this year with notable victories over No. 21 Arizona State and No. 16 Michigan.
  • The Cowgirls picked up two run-rule wins over Memphis (10-0) and Central Arkansas (14-1) over the weekend at Memphis's Tournament.
  • Sophomore outfielder Katelynn Carwile has started in eight games for Oklahoma State as she leads with a .436 batting average.
  • Senior Chyenne Factor has started in all 21 games this season as she holds a .304 average at the plate while leading the team with 6 home runs.
  • Among the Cowgirl pitching staff, Kelly Maxwell (6-0) leads with 92 strike outs, 53.2 innings pitched all while maintaining a low 1.04 ERA.
  • Texas transfer Miranda Elish trails Maxwell with a 2.88 – second lowest on the staff – with 48.2 innings spent in the circle.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will resume Sun Belt Conference action as the team will welcome Coastal Carolina to Allan Saxe Field for a three-game series beginning Friday, March 16 at 6 p.m.
