RECORD-SETTING SEASON SHAPING UP
The 2021-22 campaign is shaping up to be a potentially historic and record-setting season in terms of scoring average for the Mavericks. Currently, UTA has a 288.62 average score over 21 rounds; the current single-season scoring mark in program history is 291.09 by the 2008-09 squad.
Â
Not surprisingly, the Mavs are also closing in on the single-season program record for par-or-better rounds with 11 in the aforementioned 21 opportunities. The 2008-09 team had 12 for the current all-time mark, but that came in 33 rounds.
Â
UTA has gotten to that point thanks in large part to assaulting par 5s as the team for the year has a 4.76 scoring average on those holes, currently the 2nd-best in program history and just off the all-time single-season mark of 4.73 established in 2019-20.
Â
RECORDS NEARLY FALL IN PHOENIX
Kyle Cox claimed medalist honors with a 1st-place, near-program-record finish of 11-under par, and UTA posted a 3rd-place, top-5 all-time program performance as the Mavs shot a 13-under score at the Grand Canyon Invitational from the GCU Championship Golf Course last Monday and Tuesday.
Â
The 202 total for Cox (66-68-68) was just one shot shy of tying the all-time 54-hole program record of 201 set by Zack Reeves at the 2007 Turtle Bay Resort Collegiate Invitational. Cox joined Tanner Gore in a tie for 2nd place on the all-time program list as Gore also recorded a 202 total at the 2019 Redhawk Invitational.
Â
As a team, the 839 total for UTA (279-278-282) represented the 4th-best 54-hole score in program history, bested by only an 823 at the 2007 Turtle Bay Resort Collegiate Invitational, an 835 at the 2007 Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate and an 837 at the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Championship.

INSIDE THIS WEEK'S LINEUP
- Cronje
Cronje will be making his fifth start of the season in the team lineup – more than the other four players combined. The junior holds a scoring average of 76.25 this year with a season-best round of 71 and a pair of par-or-better performances. This will be his 19th tournament appearance in his third season.
 - Lindberg
Lindberg will be making his season debut, and the grad student will be competing as part of the team lineup for just the second time in his career and first since his true freshman season in 2017-18. Last year, he teed it up as an individual at Dallas Baptist's Patriot Classic and posted a final-round 1-under 71 to represent a career best. This will represent Lindberg's fourth-career start.
 - Menacho
In the fall, Menacho competed as an individual in a pair of events, signing for a low round of 72 at the Texas Intercollegiate. The junior has a scoring average of 75.83 over those six rounds. This will mark his first-ever appearance in the team lineup and fifth-career start overall.
 - Massengale
Outside of Cronje, Massengale possesses the most experience in the lineup this week as the grad student will be making his eighth-career start, but first of 2021-22. Last year, he competed in three events, carding a season- and career-low round of 2-under 70 in the 1st round of the Little Rock Invitational. Of the six rounds he competed as a team member last year, his score was used in the team total five times, and all nine rounds during the year were in the 70s.
 - Griessel
True freshman Griessel will be making his first-career start in the team lineup and second appearance of the season. He competed as an individual at the Texas Intercollege in September, posting rounds of 76-75-74.
