Softball Heads to ACU For Midweek Action

ABILENE, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team (16-17) will take a break from Sun Belt Conference play as the team will head to Abilene Tuesday to face the Abilene Christian Wildcats with the first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
Heading into Tuesday, the Maverick lead the overall series record with the Wildcats 5-4. The two teams haven't met since the shortened 2020 season – due to COVID – where UTA defeated ACU in a 2-0 win at the Texas A&M Tournament back in February two seasons ago.

UTA NOTES (16-17) (7-8, SBC)
  • The Mavericks are coming off a 1-3 week as the team's only win came from the series opener at Georgia State where the Mavs defeated the Panthers 5-1.
  • Unfortunately, the Mavericks fell in game two and game three of the conference series picking up their third series loss.
  • Morgan Rios was instrumental in UTA's lineup as the graduate student went 4-11 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI. She batted .364 over the course of the week and was key in the Maverick's offense over the weekend against Georgia State. She tabbed two 3-run home runs in the conference series alone.
  • Rios paced UTA with a .909 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage. The Mansfield, Texas native has the second-most home runs on the squad with 5 on the season so far as she now leads with a .339 batting average.
  • Senior Meagan Smith also tabbed 2 home runs over the course of the week with 5 RBI of her own. Smith paces UTA with the second-best batting average of .320. The first baseman leads the Mavs with a .629 slugging percentage and 8 home runs so far this season.
  • Freshman Jessica Adams continues to be UTA's go-to on the mound as she holds the lowest ERA on the staff (3.53). Adams sits on a record of 10-11 with 64 strike outs across 133.0 innings pitched.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT- Abilene Christian (19-19) (10-5, WAC)
  • ACU is coming off a series win over Lamar in WAC play as the Wildcats went 2-1 at Poly Wells Field in Abilene.
  • Graduate student Calie Burris leads the pack with a .412 batting average and is tied for the most hits on the team (40) with junior Mercedes Eichelberger.
  • Not only does Burris lead in batting average, but she also holds a team-high of 11 double, 26 walks and a .701 slugging percentage.
  • Sophomore Avery Miloch paces the Wildcat's offense with six home runs and 28 RBI.
  • In the circle for ACU, graduate student Sidney Holman-Mansell as spent the most time with 130.2 innings under her belt. Holman-Mansell has tabbed 114 strike outs with 14 complete games as she leads the pitching staff with a 3.00 ERA.
 
ON DECK
UTA will resume conference play this weekend as the squad will host Georgia Southern at Allan Saxe Field beginning Thursday, Apr. 14 with the first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
