Mavericks Set For App State Series

BOONE, N.C. – The UT Arlington softball team (21-20, 11-10 SBC) will head to Boone, North Carolina for a three-game series as the Mavericks are set to face App State.

The Mavs will take on the Mountaineers Friday, Apr. 29 through Sunday, May 1 at Sywassink/ Lloyd Family Stadium. UTA sits on an overall record of 21-20 with an 11-10 record in conference action.

UTA is coming off a series loss to Troy where the Mavericks went 1-2 last weekend at Troy Softball Complex. Despite dropping the series opener, UTA went on to split the series with a 3-1 win on Saturday. Unfortunately, the Mavs' bats struggled in the final game of the series resulting in a 5-0 loss.

SERIES HISTORY
The Mavericks lead the overall series with the Mountaineers 15-4 with the most recent matchup coming from last season where App State defeated UTA 2-0 at Allan Saxe Field. However, UTA went on to win the three-game series after the Mavs won the first and second game of the series.

UTA NOTES (21-20) (11-10, SBC)
  • The UT Arlington softball team is coming off a tough series loss at Troy last weekend at Troy Softball Complex, The Mavericks were able to split the series on Saturday but ultimately fell short in the final game of the series. UTA moved onto an overall record of 21-20 and a conference record of 11-10.
  • The Mavericks' offense looks to bounce back after the squad produced just three hits in three games against the Trojans giving pitcher Leanna Johnson her third no-hitter of the season.
  • Graduate student Morgan Rios continues to lead the Mavericks with a .310 batting average. Rios is currently tied with the 2nd-most RBI on the team - along with KJ Murphy - with 23. Both Rios and Murphy also share 5 home runs apiece.
  • Meagan Smith paces UTA's lineup with 26 RBI and 8 home runs so far this season. Smith currently holds the third-highest batting average of .300.
  • Freshman Jessica Adams has been the Mavs' ace this year as she sits on a 12-13 record in the circle. Over 161.1 innings of work, Adams has 73 strike outs and 13 complete games. The righty has the lowest ERA on the staff of 3.21.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT – App State (27-20) (8-11, SBC)
  • App State is coming off a midweek win as the Mountaineers beat North Carolina A&T in Boone with a final score of 6-4.
  • App took a series loss to Louisiana last weekend; however, the Mountaineers took game one of the series 4-1.
  • Across 47 games, sophomore Kayt Houston leads the squad with a .404 batting average, 13 home runs, 40 RBI, 10 doubles, 63 hits and a .718 slugging percentage.
  • Senior Mary Pierce Barnes holds a .313 batting average with 32 RBI on the season – 2nd-most on the team.
  • Freshman Sejal Neas holds the lowest ERA on the Mountaineer pitching staff of 2.59. Neas sits on an 8-3 record in the circle across 67.2 innings and has recorded 30 strike outs.
  • Sophomore Delani Buckner leads the rotation with 113.1 innings pitched and 104 strike outs. Buckner has thrown eight complete games and has an ERA of 3.03.

The Mavericks will wrap up regular season play as UTA will welcome Texas State to Allan Saxe Field for the final Sun Belt series beginning on Thursday, May 5 at 6:00 p.m.
