Mavericks Wrap Up Series With Win at App State

Box Score BOONE, N.C. – The UT Arlington softball team bounced back Saturday with a 4-1 victory over App State to conclude the three-game series from Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.

After dropping both games in Friday's doubleheader, the Mavericks' lineup battled and came out on top. UTA moves onto an even 21-22 overall record and 12-12 record in Sun Belt action.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at App State (W, 4-1)
The Mavericks' offense put together 10 hits Saturday as four Mavs came away with multi-hit games. Jadyn Erickson (2-4) Sophie Wideman (2-4), Morgan Rios (2-4, 1 RBI) and Amber Langston (2-3) tabbed two hits each.

Senior Kimber Cortemelia extended UTA's lead to 4-1 courtesy of a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning making that her second long ball of the weekend.

Sophomore Jessica Carreon also contributed going 1-3 at the plate.

Jessica Adams got the start on the mound for the Mavericks and pitched 3.0 innings allowing one run off four hits. Morgan Max came in for Adams in the circle and went on to throw 4.0 innings without allowing a run across. Max tabbed three strike outs across 19 Mountaineers earning her fourth win of the season.

PLAY BY PLAY: at App State (W, 4-1)
  • Rios put UTA on the board with an RBI-single up the middle that brought Murphy around in the top of the first.
  • The Mavericks extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the third courtesy of a 3-run home run from the bat of Cortemelia – her second of the weekend.
  • The Mountaineer scratched one run in the bottom of the third off an RBI-single from the bat of App State's McKenzie McCullen to make it a 4-1 game.
  • UTA was able to hold its lead to take the final game of the series, 4-1.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will wrap up regular season play as UTA will welcome Texas State to Allan Saxe Field for the final Sun Belt series beginning on Thursday, May 5 at 6:00 p.m.
