FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman
Iyana Gray earned quarterfinal bids into the 100 and 200 meter dash to lead the UT Arlington track and field team at the NCAA West Prelims on Thursday at John McDowell Field.
Gray finished third in both of her heats to earn automatic qualifiers into the next round. In the 100 meter dash, next to the No. 2 sprinter in the nation in Jada Baylark from Arkansas, Gray placed with a time of 11.61.
Later that night, Gray again placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.36 against some of the top sprinters in the nation. Gray moves on to Saturday's quarterfinals with a trip to Eugene on the line.
Tatyana Terrell ran a time of 11.86 in the 100, 23.92 in the 200, and 54.50 in the 400, but was not able to qualify for Saturday.
Adeyemi Talabi added an 11.78 sprint in the 100.
In the 400 meter hurdles,
Shelby West placed fifth in her heat with a time of 59.57, while
Jade Bontke came in with a time of 1:02.37.
On the field side, Bontke was 23rd in the long jump with a leap of 6.07 (19-11), while
Liv Cantby 30th with a throw of 44.52 (146-1) in the javelin.
The men will return to center stage on Friday with four tickets to Eugene on the line for
Bryson DeBerry,
Marvin Walford,
Joel Bengtsson, and
Lucas Van Klaveren.
