HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Taliyah Clark poured in a season-high 28 points to lead the UT Arlington women's basketball team (2-8, 0-2 WAC) to a 76-65 win over Sam Houston (5-4, 0-0 C-USA) inside the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
Clark's scoring output topped her previous high by three points, while she finished 10-for-13 from the field along with nine rebounds, three assists and one block. This is her third game of the season scoring 20 plus points and sixth game posting double figures.
Adela Valkova bested her career high by one point, scoring 16 points in 28 minutes of action on 7-for-9 shooting from the floor. She hit her second three-pointer of the season and tied her season high by pulling down six rebounds. Valkova finished with two assists, one block and one steal.
Avery Brittingham posted her fifth double-double of the year with 11 points and 14 rebounds in 33 minutes of work. The 14 rebounds ties her season-high. She also chipped in with five assists and two blocks. In 10 games, she has posted double figures in scoring in all 10 contests.
As a team, the Lady Mavs shot 50-percent from the field for the game, going 26-for-52. UTA also finished 20-for-24 from the free-throw line for a .833 free-throw percentage, their second-best output of the season.
Through one quarter of play, UTA trailed Sam Houston by one, 16-15, despite shooting 50-percent for the quarter and hitting both of their three-point attempts and going a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.
The Lady Mavs took the lead in the second quarter with 8:53 left to go, and never surrendered that lead. They would go up by as many as 10 points in the quarter before heading into the locker room up 35-30 at the half.
Entering the third quarter, the Lady Mavs came out swinging by going on a 13-2 run to put them up by 16, 48-32, with 6:30 left in the quarter. The third would finish with the Lady Mavs going up by 19 points.
With the win, the Lady Mavs picked up their first road victory of the season.
NEXT UP
The Lady Mavs travel to Alabama to take on Jacksonville State on December 19 as part of the WAC/Conference USA Challenge. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.
