Skinner, Tritt Take Part in USA Volleyball Women’s National Team Open Program

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- Sophie Skinner and Jalie Tritt are competing in the U.S. Women's National Team Open Program this weekend at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

"We are excited that Sophie and Jalie will be representing UTA volleyball at this prestigious event," UT Arlington head volleyball coach J.T. Wenger said. "I am confident it will be a fantastic learning experience with some of the best players in the country."

The WNT Open Program is used for consideration for selection to both the Women's National Team and the Women's Collegiate National Team. These programs allow the Women's National Team staff to observe the highest potential athletes with and against one another.

In 2023, members of the Women's National Team will compete in the following events: Volleyball Nations League, Paris Olympic Qualifier, Pan American Cup, NORCECA Continental Championship, and potentially Pan American Games. Athletes born in 2003 or younger may also be in consideration for selection to our U21 Women's National Team that will compete in the 2023 FIVB U21 World Championship.

Led by U.S. Women's Head Coach Karch Kiraly, the Women's National Team staff and volleyball coaches from around the country, athletes will participate in skill-specific activities and match play throughout the Open Program. Other coaches on site include Erin Virtue, Tama Miyashiro and Alfee Reft.

Players from colleges and universities around the country are registered for the three-day event. The Open Program was made available to current and recently graduated, college-age athletes born in the years 1997-2003 inclusive. Athletes born outside of this age group had to get special permission to attend.

This past season, Skinner was named to the WAC's All-Freshmen Team after registering a team-best 692 assists, becoming one of just nine rookies in program history to compile at least 500 assists. She had double-digit assists in all but one match and 16 matches with 20-plus assists, including 11 with 30-plus and five with 40-plus.

Tritt tallied 137 kills, including seven matches with double-digit totals, despite missing over a month due to injury late in the season. She had a season-best 16 kills along with nine digs against Providence on Sept. 13, was named to the UTA Classic All-Tourney Team and was named WAC Freshman of the Week in late September.
