Heading into Tuesday's matchup, Baylor leads the overall record with UTA 54-28 with the most recent matchup being on April 19, 2022, where the Mavs fell to the Bears 2-1 at Allan Saxe Field. Since 2019, UTA is 4-2 versus Baylor. The latest victory over the Bears was back in the home opener in Arlington where the Mavericks run-ruled Baylor in a 12-3 win (2/22/22).

UTA NOTES (6-8)
  • The Mavericks are coming off a tough 1-4 weekend at the Texas State Classic in San Marcos where the squad's lone win was a 4-3 victory over UTSA.
  • UTA took Texas State to extra-innings both times they faced the host. Both matchups were hard-fought battles among the Mavericks and Bobcats but unfortunately, the two meetings landed in Texas State's favor.
  • Paris Brienesse continues to be a key part in the Mavericks' offense as she leads with an overall batting average of .440 going 11-25 at the plate. The sophomore has five RBI on the season with an impressive 1.121 OPS.
  • Over the weekend, Brienesse finished 7-15 (.476) going 5-6 in stolen bases.
  • Senior Reagan Hukill has started in all 14 games for the Mavs so far this season as she holds a team-high of four doubles with the second-best average of .270.
  • 5th years Sophie Wideman (.257) and Kimber Cortemelia (.268) lead the Mavs with the most RBI with eight apiece.
  • In the circle, sophomore Jessica Adams sits on a 2.51 ERA with over 44 innings of work. In the 12 games that she's appeared in, Adams has tossed 16 strike outs. The righty is fresh off a complete game against Texas State this past Saturday night where she faced 38 Bobcats – which marked a new season-high – across eight innings.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | BAYLOR BEARS (13-1)
  • Baylor has had an impressive start to the 2023 season as the team is 13-1.
  • The Bears are currently on a nine-game winning streak and are coming off their very own Baylor Invitational. There, Baylor picked up two wins against Minnesota, Texas A&M – Commerce and No. 21 Maryland.
  • Back at Baylor's Getterman Classic, the squad took down No.1 Oklahoma 4-3, handing the Sooner's their first loss of the 2023 season.
  • Sophomore Shaylon Govan paces the Bears' bats with a .525 batting average and 29 RBI on 21 hits. In 14 games, the infielder has five home runs and just two strike outs across 40 at-bats.
  • Infielder Amber Toven holds the second-best average of .450 as she's tallied 11 RBI and 18 hits on the year.
  • Two-way player Aaliyah Binford is batting .440 with a .650 slugging percentage. In the circle, Binford had 21 strike outs across 21 innings pitched.
  • Junior Dariana Orme earned the win against Oklahoma and reached a season-high of 11 strike outs against #21 Maryland in the Baylor Invitational. Overall, Orme has a low ERA of 0.88 over the span of 32 innings of work. The righty sits on a 5-1 record and 36 strike outs.
ON DECK
To commence March action, the Mavs will host Kansas City, Lamar and Rider as part of the 4th Boerner Invitational – their second and final home tournament of the season. The Boerner Invitational – named in honor of Melissa Boerner, a former UTA softball captain who was killed by a drunk driver the day before her senior year began in 1998 – is to help raise awareness to the importance of responsible drinking.
