ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team (19-27, 9-12) will wrap up regular season action with a three-game series against Sam Houston beginning Friday, May 5 through Saturday, May 6 from Allan Saxe Field.
SHSU leads the overall series record with UTA, 56-47. The Mavs and Bearkats faced off at the beginning of the 2023 season at the Tracy Beard College Classic in Celina, Texas where Sam Houston beat UTA, 15-8.

UTA NOTES (19-27) (9-12, WAC)
- The Mavericks are looking to bounce back after dropping all three games against Tarleton last weekend at Allan Saxe Field as UTA sits in 10th place in the conference.
- Freshman Marley Neises leads the Mavericks with an impressive .386 batting average on the season which is the second-best in program history.
- The outfielder broke the program record for the most hits in a single game on March 17 at against Southern Utah where she logged a perfect 5-5 performance at the plate.
- In conference play alone, Neises (.439) and senior Lindsey Franklin (.405) pace UTA with the top 2 batting averages. Combined, the pair have eight home runs and 46 hits.
- Jessica Adams leads the Maverick pitching rotation with over 162.1 innings of work as the sophomore sits on an ERA of 3.10. The righty has 64 strike outs on the year, 12 wins and nine complete games under her belt.
- Junior Gracie Bumpurs has been the other half of head coach Kara Dill's staff as Bumpurs has appeared in 34 games for UTA this season. The right-handed pitcher has thrown 106 innings, coming away with 37 strike outs.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT – SAM HOUSTON (21-32) (11-10, WAC)
- Sam Houston sits on an overall record of 21-32 after dropping its midweek game at #5 Texas this past Wednesday with a final score of 12-2 (5 innings).
- The Bearkats are currently tied for 5th place in the WAC standings with an 11-10 record. SHSU has picked conference series wins over Abilene Christian, Tarleton and Utah Valley.
- Junior Ellie Grill leads the pack with a .293 batting average and has started in every single game this season for Sam Houston. With a team-high 51 hits, Grill also leads in walks (18) and stolen bases (13).
- Sophomore Brodie Quinlan paces the 'Kats offense with 29 RBI and shares a team-high of seven home runs with Brailey Wasik.
- In conference alone, Wasik is batting .439, starting in 13 games. The sophomore has five home runs, 14 RBI, a .902 slugging percentage and a 1.413 OPS against WAC opponents.
- Graduate student Emma Guindon posts a low 3.21 ERA and leads the pitching rotation with 109 innings of work. Guindon has logged 62 strike outs and seven wins so far this season.

UTA will look ahead to the Western Athletic Conference Tournament that is scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 10 through Saturday, May 13 at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona.
