ARLINGTON – New UT Arlington men's basketball head coach KT Turner has added another Division-I transfer, this time in the formidable presence of 6-10, 250-pound center Darrius Miles, who signed with the Mavericks following two seasons at Western Kentucky.
Â
An Oak Cliff native from the DFW Metroplex, Miles will have three years of eligibility remaining with UTA, beginning immediately as a redshirt sophomore.
Â
Miles commenced his collegiate career in the spring semester of the 2020-21 season at Odessa College before transferring to Conference USA member WKU.
Â
Coming out of Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy, Miles was a 3-star recruit by 247Sports and garnered All-District 10-4A First Team honors as a senior by the Dallas Morning News.
Â
"Darrius is a skilled, modern-day big man – he can score inside and out," said Turner. "He has a lot of upside, potential and bright future with his natural length and ability."
Â
Last year with the Hilltoppers, Miles appeared in 10 games. He delivered a D-I career-high seven points against Kentucky State in his first appearance of the year, going 3-4 from the floor and knocking down a 3-pointer in that contest. For the season, Miles shot 50 percent from the field.
Â
In his first season at WKU, Miles logged action in just one game and used a redshirt season. However, that contest came against national power Kentucky in December where he scored four points and grabbed two rebounds in 10 minutes.
Â
Miles joined Odessa midway through the COVID-impacted campaign in 2020-21, and appeared in 17 games starting in late January. He shot 61 percent from the field for the year, and notched a season-high 12 points against Loyalty College Prep in his second game with the Wranglers.
Â
This is Turner's seventh signee of his initial recruiting class as Miles joins D-I transfers
Freds Pauls Bagatskis,
DaJuan Gordon,
Phillip Russell and
Fabio Basili, former D-I product
Dwayne Koroma and prep school graduate
Makaih Williams. Incoming freshman

Â
Combined with returners
Shemar Wilson,
Brandyn Talbot and
Aaron Cash, Turner already has nine players on the 2023-24 roster who have previous D-I playing experience with still more signees coming. Those nine have combined to score 3,054 D-I points; as a team last year, UTA began the season with only 1,215 D-I points combined among 14 players.
