HOUSTON – After a week off from the field, the UT Arlington softball team will pick back up with a midweek matchup at Houston Christian on Tuesday, Mar. 12 from Husky Field.
 
UTA faced No. 1/2 Texas in Austin on Wednesday, Mar. 6 as the Mavs suffered an 8-1 loss. Although Texas outhit the Mavericks with 10 hits, UTA managed to scratch one run across as it was former Longhorn, Camille Corona, who knocked in the lone run off an RBI-triple.

UTA NOTES (8-15)

• The Mavs took a midweek loss at No. 1/2 Texas on Wednesday, Mar. 6 to push them to an overall record of 8-15.
• Texas transfer Camille Corona returned to McCombs Field as the fifth year made 29 starts for the Longhorns with a .375 career batting average. There, Corona saw 96 at-bats and tabbed 36 hits.
• Since being at UTA, Corona has become an everyday starter for head coach Kara Dill as the lefty leads the Mavs with a .417 batting average with 25 hits. Corona ranks fourth in the WAC in batting average.
• The Mavs had a historic 5-1 weekend in the Boerner Invitational with a no-hitter from Jade Moreno and a perfect game from Jessica Adams.
• Moreno tossed an unbelievable game against the Tigers of Grambling State (Mar. 1) in five innings as UTA went on to defeat GSU 8-0. The freshman allowed just one walk across 18 batters, coming away with a single-game high of seven strike outs.
• Adams was named WAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, Mar. 4 after the junior recorded a perfect game – the second in program history and first in a full seven-inning game – in the Mavericks' 1-0 victory over Incarnate Word (Mar. 3). Against the Cardinals, Adams tabbed five strike outs with 16 total on the season while throwing just 54 pitches – 46 of them strikes.
• Not only did Adams tab a lights out performance on the mound, she also was incredible at the plate for the Mavs the junior came away with two home runs on the weekend against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (Feb. 29) and Grambling State (Mar. 1).
• Fifth year Lindsey Franklin has had a tremendous season at the plate for the Mavs as she holds the second-best batting average on the team of .381. So far this year, the Texas native leads in RBI (16), home runs (3), slugging percentage (.587) and walks (6).
• Sophomore Nikki Donahue is the other Mav who currently holds a .300 batting average or higher. With a .308 average on the season, the catcher has tabbed nine RBI off 12 hits with a shared team-high of four doubles.

KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | HOUSTON CHRISTIAN (13-9)

• The Huskies of Houston Christian are sitting on an overall record of 13-9 after an 0-3 weekend in the Southland Conference opener against Lamar.
• In the overall series with the Mavericks, the Huskies lead 4-2.
• Senior Jasie Roberts paces HCU with a .371 batting average, 23 hits and shares a team-best of 12 RBI. The catcher/outfielder has played in all 22 games for the Huskies and has recorded five multi-hit efforts.
• Junior utility Haylie Savage holds a .308 average at the plate – second-best – with 12 RBI. Currently, Savage leads with nine doubles, three home runs and a .585 slugging percentage.
• Overall, the team is batting .269 and has produced 93 runs off 155 hits.
• In the circle, senior Ronni Grofman has spent the most time in for the Huskies with over 41 innings pitched. With four complete games and 34 strike outs, Grofman holds a 2.37 ERA.

ON DECK
The Mavericks will commence WAC play with their first conference series against California Baptist beginning Friday, Mar. 15 at Allan Saxe Field.
