Mavericks Gear Up For Midweek Matchup at Texas A&M - Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas – Fresh off a 3-0 weekend, the UT Arlington softball team looks to keep its momentum going as the Mavericks will face off with Texas A&M – Commerce in a midweek matchup on Tuesday, Apr. 2 from John Cain Family Softball Complex.

SERIES HISTORY
This will be the very first meeting between the two programs.

UTA NOTES (14-20, 5-3)
  • The Mavericks picked up their first conference series win and sweep of the season over the weekend against Southern Utah as UTA improved its overall and conference record to 14-20 and 5-3.
  • As a team, UTA has produced 130 runs off 243 hits with a .284 batting average.
  • Fifth year Camille Corona batted .556 (5-9) with a .667 on-base percentage as the fifth year started in all four games last week for the Mavericks. Corona collected her 11th multi-hit game of the season after a perfect 3-3 performance at the plate in UTA's 6-3 victory against Southern Utah on Saturday, Mar. 30. The infielder also came away with a hit in the first two games against the Thunderbirds and an RBI.
  • In the circle, senior Gracie Bumpurs tossed her first complete game of the season, guiding the Mavs to a 2-0 victory in the series opener against SUU.
  • Following Bumpurs, fellow pitcher Jessica Adams went on to throw just over 14 innings with a 0.49 ERA across the last week of competition as the righty made appearances against North Texas (3/26) and Southern Utah (3/29, 3/30). Adams threw her fourth complete game of the season, helping the Mavericks to a 7-0 win against the Thunderbirds.
  • Overall, Corona paces UTA's offense with an impressive .415 batting average and 39 hits. Additionally, she has held the longest hitting streak of 12 games.
  • Veteran Lindsey Franklin leads the way with eight multi-RBI games on the year, holding the second-best batting average on the team of .364. The power-hitter has recorded a team-high of 27 RBI, five home runs, and a .566 slugging percentage.
  • Zaia Castruita (.351) and Kaitlyn Sailor (.310) are the only other Mavericks who currently hold a .300 batting average or higher.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | TEXAS A&M – COMMERCE (6-33, 0-12)
  • The Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce are struggling this season as the team sits on a record of 6-33. In Southland Conference play alone, TAMU- Commerce moved on to an 0-12 record after suffering a weekend sweep to Incarnate Word.
  • The Lions are batting .207 as they've put up 96 runs off 190 hits.
  • Freshman Tehya Pitts paces the team's offense with a .308 batting average with 28 hits and 15 runs scored. The outfielder has played in 37 games, making 35 starts as Pitts leads with 16 stolen bases.
  • Despite batting just .198, fellow freshman Charli Anger holds a team-high of 17 RBI off 16 hits and three home runs.
  • The Lions' five-player pitching staff currently holds a 6.55 ERA as junior Julia Sanchez has spent the most time in the circle with 78.2 innings pitched. The righty has appeared in 24 games, making 10 starts with 47 strike outs.

UTA will look ahead to its series with conference leader Grand Canyon as the Mavericks will take on the Lopes beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 5 followed by the final game of the series on Saturday, Apr. 6 from GCU Softball Stadium.
