UTA Welcomes SFA For Midweek Doubleheader

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team will look to ignite its spark once again as the Mavericks will resume conference action with a doubleheader against Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday, Apr. 10 from Allan Saxe Field.
 
The Mavs and Ladyjacks were originally scheduled for a doubleheader on Tuesday, Apr. 9 but incoming inclement weather pushed their matchups back.
 
UTA leads the longstanding overall series record with SFA, 58-41. One season ago, the Mavericks picked up the series win in the regular season but fell to the Ladyjacks in the WAC Tournament on May 10, 2023, with a final score of 6-5 in extra innings.

UTA NOTES (14-24, 5-6)
  • The Mavericks are fresh off an unfortunate series sweep to conference leader, Grand Canyon, as UTA sits on an overall record of 14-24 and 5-6 in WAC play.
  • Infielder Camille Corona continues to play a vital role in head coach Kara Dill's lineup as the fifth-year transfer leads the Mavs in batting average (.406), hits (43), walks (12), on-base percentage (.462) and stolen base-attempts (6-9).
  • Veteran Lindsey Franklin holds the second-best batting average of .361 but leads UTA with 27 RBI on the season. With 39 hits, the fifth year has collected six doubles and five home runs across 38 games played.
  • Zaia Castruita (.350) and Nicole Hill (.333) have both plugged their way into the Mavericks' starting lineup as the pair are the only other two players who currently bat above .300. Castruita has tabbed 14 hits with Hill at seven.
  • In WAC play alone, Castruita leads with a .571 batting average with eight hits across 14 at-bats. Sophomore Marley Neises leads with the most at-bats against conference opponents with 36.
  • Junior Jessica Adams posts the lowest ERA of 3.10 among the five-player pitching staff as the righty has spent the most time in the circle with over 67 innings of work. Adams has appeared in 20 games, making 10 starts and leads with four complete games so far on the season.
  • Senior Gracie Bumpurs has two complete games under belt as the veteran leads the Mavericks with 29 strike outs.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | STEPHEN F. AUSTIN (11-29, 4-8)
  • The Ladyjacks picked up a series win over Tarleton last weekend in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, Apr. 6 after dropping the series opener.
  • SFA moved up one spot in the WAC standings and is tied Southern Utah with a 4-8 conference record.
  • As a team, The Ladyjacks are batting .237 as their offense has produced 101 runs off 237 hits. The only batter who is hitting above a .300 is senior Emily Land.
  • Land holds a team-high .328 batting average as the catcher also leads with 12 RBI and five doubles.
  • In WAC action, junior AlexisTelford paces SFA's offense with five RBI and a .643 slugging percentage as Amiah Galcatcher leads with a .375 batting average. The Ladyjacks have five players who currently hold a .300 average or higher as the team has knocked 24 runs off 77 hits.
  • As a five-person pitching staff, SFA sits on a 4.07 ERA – fourth-best of the WAC. Senior pitcher Aydenne Brown leads with a 3.51 ERA across 87.1 innings of work and also leads in strike outs (32), wins (4), complete games (6) while limiting opponents' bats to a .220 batting average.
  • In conference action alone, the senior has struck out 28 batters in 29.2 innings. With a 1-1 record, Brown posts a low 1.89 ERA.
ON DECK
UTA will turn around and stay at home with a three-game series with the Wolverines of Utah Valley that is scheduled to begin with a doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 12 from Allan Saxe Field.
