Lady Mavs Six Game Win Streak Snapped By California Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (14-8, 9-2 WAC) had their six-game winning streak snapped on the road by California Baptist (9-15, 6-4 WAC) 90-79 on Thursday evening.

The Lady Mavs had three players score in double figures, led by Taliyah Clark, who had 19 points and two blocks. Avery Brittingham added 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals and Koi Love chipped in as well with a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Led by Love's six offensive rebounds, the Lady Mavs did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in nine second chance points.

The UTA defense caused its share of mistakes in Thursday's game, forcing 20 Cal Baptist turnovers while committing 11. Those takeaways turned into 31 points on the offensive end of the floor. Brittingham's three steals led the way individually for the Mavericks.

Brittingham pulled down her 1000th career rebound in the fourth quarter and now is a member of the 1000 point and 1000 rebound club.

GAME FLOW
After falling behind 10-8, UT Arlington went on a 6-0 run with 5:02 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Nya Threatt, to take a 14-10 lead. The Mavericks then lost some of that lead but still entered the quarter break with a 22-20 advantage. UT Arlington did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 22 points close to the basket.

Cal Baptist rallied to take a 38-32 lead before UT Arlington went on a 7-0 run starting at the 2:31 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Clark, to take a 39-38 lead. CBU would then go on their largest run of the first half, an 8-0 run behind a pair of three pointers from Khloe Lemon and a layup from Claudia Fiel to beat the clock and sending the Lady Mavs into the locker room down seven, 46-39.

After halftime, UTA cut its deficit to 55-49 before going on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Alexsyah Goudeau, to grab a 57-55 lead with 2:58 to go in the third. Cal Baptist responded to seize a 67-58 lead entering the fourth quarter.

The Lady Mavs could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 90-79. UTA took advantage of eight Cal Baptist turnovers in the quarter, scoring 12 points off of those takeaways.
