Softball Hosts Maverick Invitational For Final Preseason Tournament

ARLINGTON - After a successful home opener last weekend, the UT Arlington softball team looks to continue its momentum into its Maverick Invitational beginning Friday, Feb. 28 where the Mavericks will welcome Prairie View A&M and East Texas A&M to Allan Saxe Field.

Coming into this weekend, head coach Kara Dill reached a milestone in her head coaching career, securing her 50th win at UTA with the Mavs' 9-5 victory over Yale (Feb. 22, 2025). 

UTA has faced the Panthers of PVAMU twice so far this season which came from the season opener at Incarnate Word's Tournament. There, the Mavericks added onto their undefeated overall series history record of 17-0 with the Panthers.

UTA NOTES
  • Junior Kailee Bautista continues to pace the pack with a .389 batting average, coming away with a team-high 14 hits, 11 RBI, 25 total bases, nine walks, six HBP, a .694 slugging percentage and a .569 on-base percentage.
  • Not only does Bautista lead in multiple statistical batting categories, she also paces the Maverick lineup in multi-hit games (5), multi-RBI games (3) and reached base streaks (7).
  • Transfer Mia McNulty has made quite the impact in head coach Kara Dill's lineup as the sophomore holds the second-best batting average of .324. McNulty has started in 14 games this season, splitting her time at catcher and designated player.
  • Freshman Talia Maldonado has started at shortstop in every contest for the Mavs, sitting on a .306 batting average. Maldonado has taken on the everyday shortstop role, settling in nicely with 11 hits of her own, eight RBI, one home run, four doubles and a .500 slugging percentage.
  • Sixth year Emilie Hoelscher has spent the most time in the circle for UTA with 21 innings pitched. With the best ERA of 3.33 on the staff, the lefty holds a 2-2 record while limiting opponent's offense to a .256 batting average.
  • So far this season, UTA has scored 57 runs off 79 hits. In the Western Athletic Conference standings, the Mavs sit in 4th place behind Seattle U (3rd), Tarleton (2nd) and Grand Canyon (1st).
  • As a team, the Mavericks holds the second-best home run total with 11 on the season - just four shy of GCU with 15. UTA ranks in the top 3 in walks (47), hit-by-pitch (13) and walks per game (3.13). 

ON DECK
UTA will open up conference play at Allan Saxe with Utah Tech. The Mavericks and Trailblazers will face off with a three-game series beginning on Friday, Mar. 7.
