Mavericks Gear Up For Pair of Midweek Games

ARLINGTON - The UT Arlington softball team looks ahead to back-to-back midweek games as the Mavericks will host Houston Christian on Tuesday, Mar. 18 before heading up I-35 to face North Texas on Wednesday, Mar. 19.

UTA is coming off a successful 2-1 weekend as the Mavs took the series from Tarleton with a doubleheader sweep, leading the program to an overall record fo 15-10 and 4-2 in WAC play.

UTA NOTES
  • The Mavericks sit on a winning record of 15-10 with 108 runs scored off 154 hits. UTA sits in 3rd in the conference behind Seattle U in 2nd (17-19) and Grand Canyon at the top (22-3).
  • Utility Kaitlyn Sailor batted .417 across the week, coming away with five hits, two doubles and four RBI. In UTA's series win over Tarleton, Sailor went 4-7 in Saturday's doubleheader sweep as the sophomore scored three times with a .583 slugging percentage.
  • Sophomore Abi Gutierrez tossed 10 strike outs in UTA's 6-5 victory over the Texans on Saturday, making that the second-highest strike outs in a single game for the young sophomore's career. With a 2.33 ERA across six innings pitched, the lefty improved to a perfect 4-0 record on the season while limiting the Texan lineup to two runs.
  • Junior Kailee Bautista sits on an impressive batting average of .381, leading the team in hits (24), RBI (17), slugging percentage (.635), walks (19), on-base percentage (.562) and hit-by-pitches (7). With eight multi-hit efforts, the power hitter capped the weekend at Tarleton with a .500 batting average and a pair of RBI.
  • Transfer Mia McNulty has climbed the ladder in multiple statistical batting categories including batting average (.309, 2nd), hits (21, 2nd), RBI (14, 2nd), doubles (6, 2nd), total bases (36, 2nd) and slugging percentage (.529, 2nd). The catcher has provided solid defense behind the plate as her and Bautista has split time at catcher so far this season. 
  • Senior Jessica Adams has thrown the most among the seven-player pitching staff with 33.1 innings pitched and leads with a 3.15 ERA. The right-hander sits on a 4-2 record and has appeared in 10 games, making three starts.
  • Gutierrez skyrocketed in strike outs over the weekend, totaling her number to 27 on the season. With 25.2 innings tossed, the left-hander has given up just two home runs while limiting opponent's batting average to .242.

The Mavs will look for their third conference series win with a three-game weekend hosting Abilene Christian beginning Friday, Mar. 21 from Allan Saxe Field.
