ARLINGTON, Texas – For the first time this season, both cross country teams are ranked in the latest regional rankings as released by the USTFCCCA on Monday, Sept. 15.
Previously ranked at 15th in the preseason poll, the women's team moved up one spot on the board coming in at 14th with the men at 11th after previously not being ranked.
Freshman
Dorcas Jepkosgei and junior
Matro Jepkemboi have paced the Mavericks with back-to-back top five finishes in the first two meets of the year. Jepkosgei placed second at UTA's Gerald Richey on Sept. 5, going on to earn the WAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week award last week. The Kenya native is coming off a record-breaking weekend after setting a new course record at the Texas A&M Invitational with a first-place finish in the women's 5k with a time of 16:46.0
Jepkemboi captured a fourth-place finish at the season opener in Arlington with a recent second-place finish at the Aggies' event over the weekend. There, the junior tabbed a time of 17:00.5
The men's squad started the 2025 season with a bang after claiming the top spot in the men's 5k, led by transfer
Toby Eaton (15:07.1) who finished fourth and freshman
Mateo Doherty (15:10.7) in fifth.
UTA has two regular season meets remaining before the WAC Cross Country Championships in Arlington and NCAA South Central Regionals.
