LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — UT Arlington defeated Little Rock 3-1 (19-25, 27-25, 25-23, 25-19) on Saturday. After dropping the opening set, UTA won three straight sets, including back-to-back two-point sets in the second and third.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UT Arlington led 5-4 early after Evyn Snook had the opening kill, teamed with Hana Aiana on a block and served an ace, but Little Rock answered from a 6-6 tie with four straight points to move ahead 10-6. The Mavericks cut it to 11-9 on Camryn McMinn's service ace, but Little Rock pushed the margin back to 16-11 and later 18-13. A Little Rock service error and back-to-back McMinn kills brought UTA within 18-16, before Little Rock scored the next two points and kept the Mavericks from getting closer than three the rest of the set. Polianna Hernandez and Lovina Teel kills put Little Rock at set point, and Alyssa Boyte closed the set at 25-19.

Little Rock built a 7-2 lead with five straight points, but UTA won seven of the next eight rallies to move in front 9-8, getting two Evyn Snook kills, a Lily Hopkins ace, two blocks involving Erica Dellesky and Hana Aiana, and a Snook ace during the stretch. The set stayed tight from there, with Mazi Smith and Aiana kills helping UTA go ahead 16-14 before Little Rock answered with three straight points for a 17-16 edge. The Mavericks moved back in front late on an Eliana Collins ace and consecutive Camryn McMinn kills for a 23-21 lead, but Little Rock tied the set at 23-23 and again at 24-24 and 25-25. Snook's kill gave UT Arlington a 26-25 advantage, and Aiana and Snook combined on the final block to finish the set 27-25.

UTA built an early 8-5 lead behind kills from Camryn McMinn and Milica Peci, but Little Rock scored the next five points to move in front 10-8. The Mavericks tied the set at 11-11 and 13-13 before Little Rock later pushed ahead 20-16, then a service error and an attack error helped UTA get back within 21-18. Dixie Nessl and Hana Aiana followed with kills, and an Avery Fearnley attack error tied the set at 21-21 before Aiana added two more kills to put the Mavericks ahead 23-22. After Little Rock tied it at 23-23, Aiana's kill gave UTA set point, and an Alyssa Boyte attack error closed the set at 25-23.

The Mavericks erased a 4-3 deficit with six straight points, getting a Camryn McMinn kill to pull even before Eliana Collins served two aces, a block by Dellesky and Nessl, another McMinn kill and a third Collins ace for a 9-4 lead. After Little Rock got within 12-8, UTA moved to 15-8 on two Little Rock attack errors, but Little Rock scored four straight points to trim the margin to 15-12. A service error stopped that push, and kills by Hana Aiana, Evyn Snook, Smith and McMinn helped UTA stay in front before McMinn put away the final two points in a 25-19 set win.
