CARROLLTON, Ga. — UT Arlington (9-11, 3-5 UAC) defeated West Ga. (4-16, 0-8 UAC) 3-1 (28-26, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21) on Saturday. UT Arlington hit .304 in the third set and .306 in the fourth while closing the match with 16 and 18 kills in those sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UTA opened the first set with a West Ga. service error, a Samantha Glenn service ace and a Hana Aiana kill from Erica Dellesky for a 3-0 lead and later was in front 12-8 after a Camryn McMinn kill and a UWG attack error. West Ga. answered with seven consecutive points, including two Grace-Blythe Cornett kills, to go ahead 15-12. Dixie Nessl's kill started a four-point UTA response that included Glenn's second ace and an Evyn Snook kill from Dellesky for a 16-15 lead, but UWG came back to lead 21-19 after consecutive Valiree Schmus kills. The Mavericks tied it at 22-22 on a West Ga. bad set, moved through ties at 23-23, 24-24, 25-25 and 26-26, then closed the set 28-26 on an Aiana kill and a Cornett attack error.

The Wolves scored the first three points of the second set before Karisa Martin's block got UTA on the board, and the home side stayed in front behind early kills from Grace-Blythe Cornett and Maddy Kirmer. A Kirmer kill started a four-point West Ga. stretch that also included a Giorgia Mandotti ace and a Brooke McCall kill, pushing the margin to 11-4 before UTA chipped back with kills from Camryn McMinn, Evyn Snook and Martin. Snook helped UTA pull within 11-14 with two kills around a UWG attack error, and the Mavericks later got to 18-21 after a service error and another West Ga. attack error. West Ga. moved back ahead 23-18, and although Snook and McMinn answered with consecutive kills to make it 20-23, Valiree Schmus and McCall closed the set with kills for a 25-20 West Ga. win.

The Mavericks started the third set with a Karisa Martin kill and Samantha Glenn ace for a 2-0 lead, but UWG answered behind Valiree Schmus kills and a Milena Cetkovic ace to move in front 5-3. After West Ga. built leads of 12-7 and 18-12, UT Arlington took seven of eight rallies, getting kills from Hana Aiana, Evyn Snook and Camryn McMinn during the stretch to tie the set at 19-19. Aiana tied it again at 20-20, and an attack error followed by a McMinn kill gave UTA a 22-20 lead; The Wolves pulled even at 22-22 and 23-23, but Martin put the Mavericks at set point before Dellesky finished the 25-23 set win from Snook's assist.

After West Ga. moved ahead 11-10, Hana Aiana's block tied the fourth set and Lily Hopkins served an ace to put UTA in front 12-11. UTA continued the push around one West Ga. point, using a kill by Dellesky, a UWG attack error, an Evyn Snook kill, two Camryn McMinn kills and a Snook ace to build an 18-12 lead. The Mavericks later went ahead 22-15 on a Milica Peci block, but West Ga. cut it to 23-21 before consecutive Snook kills closed the set 25-21.
