Box Score 2 EL PASO, Texas – The UT Arlington track and field softball team came up short in a competitive Saturday doubleheader against UTEP, falling 16-15 in a high-scoring opener before dropping a tight 9-8 decision to cap off the night at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.
The Mavericks opened the day in a back-and-forth offensive battle, totaling 15 runs on 14 hits in the first game. UTA used multiple big innings and home runs to stay within striking distance throughout but UTEP answered late to secure the one-run victory.
UTA continued its offensive momentum into game two, scoring in multiple innings and keeping pressure on the Miners up until the final frame. After UTEP pushed across three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead, the Mavericks were unable to plate the tying run in the seventh, falling by one run for the second time of the day.
Across both games, UTA combined for 23 runs and consistently threatened on the base paths but UTEP capitalized in key moments to sweep the doubleheader.

The Mavericks head back to New Mexico looking for a victory against NM State after falling on Friday and will face the Aggies on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
