ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington Mavericks dropped the opening game of their Western Athletic Conference series to Sacramento State 2-1 on Friday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Sacramento State struck first in the opening inning when Sam Harry doubled to left center and scored on an RBI double by Erick Dessens to give the Hornets an early 1-0 lead. The visitors added an insurance run in the sixth when Dessens tripled to right center and came home on a sacrifice fly by Luis Pimentel-Guerrero to extend the lead to 2-0.
UTA broke through in the eighth inning when
Hank Harp tripled to deep left field and scored on an RBI single by
Harold Laracuente to cut the deficit to 2-1, but the Mavericks were unable to generate additional offense. UTA finished with nine hits on the evening, with Laracuente,
Xavier Melendez and Harp each recording hits for the Mavericks.
Pitching Profile
- Junior Caylon Dygert took the loss after allowing two runs on seven hits over seven innings with two strikeouts.
- Sophomore Merek Sears worked two scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit with three strikeouts.
