ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington used a four run third inning to defeat McNeese State, 4-0, in Southland Conference action Thursday afternoon at Allan Saxe Field.. UTA improves to 6-9-1 overall and 2-0 in league play while the Cowgirls fall to 4-11 overall and 0-2 in the SLC.
April Jones started the Lady Mavs offense in the third with an infield single before Falon Kwasnick followed reached first on a fielders choice and Jones moved to second on a fielding error by the Cowgirls' shortstop. Katie Singleton singled through the gap to plate the first UTA runner, before Autumn Petrino was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A Beverly Rowan ground out and a Jenna Fortune single up the middle put UTA in front, 4-0.
Jill Garro (6-4) picked up her second win of the day after tossing 7.0 complete innings and being touched for only three hits.
Jessica Denham was tagged with the loss as she fell to 2-3 on the season.
Texas-Arlington returns to action Tuesday, March 2 when it plays host to Baylor for a 6 p.m. affair at Allan Saxe Field.
