HUNSTVILLE, Texas - The Unviersity of Texas at Arlington pounded out a season high 14 hits as it defeated Sam Houston State 13-0 in game one of Saturday's Southland Conference doubleheader in Huntsville. The Bearkats edged past UTA in game two by a 3-2 count.
The Lady Mavericks used a pair of five-run innings to take a 10-0 lead after only two innings. UTA added three more runs and held the 'Kats scoreless on its way to a 13-0 win.
UTA collected a season high 14 hits with sophomore Katie Singleton having yet another career day. Singleton led the Lady Mavs with three hits and three RBIs while Falon Kwasnick, Beverly Rowan, Amanda Haney, Jenna Fortune and April Jones all chipped in with two hits apiece.
Jill Garro (11-9) earned the win for UTA after allowing only one hit in a complete game effort.
SHSU edged past the Lady Mavs in game two, 3-2.
The squads will decide the series with a 1 p.m. finale on Sunday.
