ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington plated at least one-run in each of the first four innings to pound Prairie View A&M 13-0 in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader at Allan Saxe Field.
Sophomore Jill Garro (12-10) picked up the win after striking out nine and being touched for only three hits in five complete innings.
After Falon Kwasnick reached on a fielding error by the Prairie View first baseman and was sacrificed to second, Beverly Rowan drove the ball up the middle for a RBI single to put the Lady Mavericks in front 1-0 after only one inning.
UTA continued in the second as April Jones reached on a two-out fielding error by the pitcher, putting runners on first and second for the Lady Mavs. Kwasnick plated the runner with a RBI single through the gap at second.
The Lady Mavericks offense exploded from there, plating six runs in the third frame and closing out the game with five runs in the fourth.
Each UTA player in the lineup recorded at least one hit in the 14-hit sluggfest. Amanda Haney, Beverly Rowan, Autumn Petrino, Jenna Fortune and Courtni Anderson each collected two htis apiece. Anderson contributed two doubles to the Lady Mavs cause while Petrino knocked a triple.
The Lady Mavericks and Panthers will meet again at 3 p.m. today.
