ARLINGTON, Texas - Second baseman Aaron Batlle ended the first game in walk-off fashion as he deposited a Texas-Pan American pitch over the right center field wall to complete the Texas-Arlington comeback in the Mavs 5-4 victory Sunday afternoon.
Scott Williams started the inning with a double off the wall in right field before Batlle ended the game.
The Broncs (3-11) took advantage of the wet conditions in the first inning as Aaron Flowers looped a single into right center field. After being sacrificed to second, Flowers scored on Louie Alamia's single through the right side. Following a walk and a flyout, Matt Eichel plated the second run of the inning with a bloop single into left center field.
UTPA added an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning as Zach Smith drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on Daniel Macha couldn't handle the ball off the bat of Flowers.
The Mavs (6-7) tied the game up in the bottom of the eighth inning as Ryan Nelson doubled and Brett Lewis walked. Justin Stevens drove in both runners with a double down the right field line. David McLeod pinch ran for Stevens and scored on Macha's single through the left side.
The Broncs answered right back with a run in the top of the ninth as Smith started things with a double to right-center field. After a sac bunt moved him to third, he came in to score on a Joe Gutierrez sacrifice fly to left center field.
Jeremiah Haar (1-0) earned his first collegiate victory as he allowed one run on one hit in two innings of work. Tim Haines (0-2) took the loss as he allowed two runs on two hits without retiring a batter.
Cary Nelson, Stevens, Macha and Batlle each collected two hits. Stevens and Batlle drove in two runs apiece.
