WACO, Texas - The Texas-Arlington women's tennis team dropped their fourth straight match to open the season as they fell to #10 Baylor, 5-2, Tuesday evening at the Baylor Tennis Complex.
The top three singles players for Baylor were all ranked, as Texas-Arlington (0-4) dropped all three of the matches. Freshman Klara Jagosova fell to #17 Zuzana Zemenova, 6-2, 6-1, at No.1 singles. Junior Daniela Novakova dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to #9 Zuzana Cerna at No. 2 singles and Junior Simri van Rooyen fell to #80 Daniella Covello, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles.
Freshman Sara Pesic got her first victory of the season when she bested Sammi Gottlick, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, while junior Marissa Brown narrowly defeated Rachel Clark, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 6 singles.
Senior Anete Rozkalne fell at No. 4 singles to Klara Zrustova, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles action, Brown and Rozklane teamed to win the Lady Mavericks' only victory in partner play. The duo upended Gottlick and Clark, 8-3.
The Lady Mavericks will be back in action Feb. 26, when they host New Orleans. First-serve is set for 10 a.m. at the UTA Tennis Complex.
