HOUSTON, Texas - The Texas-Arlington women's tennis team dropped its fifth straight match to open the season, falling to Rice, 5-2, Saturday afternoon.

Texas-Arlington (0-5) opened the day by taking two of the three doubles matches, to take the doubles point. Junior Daniela Novakova and freshman Klara Jagosova defeated Blair Disesa and Alanna Rodgers, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles. Juniors Simri van Rooyen and Monika Peciulionyte bested Amy Cao and Madeja Egic, 8-6, at the No. 2 doubles position.

However, Rice (5-8) fought back to win five of the six singles matches to defeat the Mavericks. Van Rooyen was the only Lady Mavericks to win a singles match, defeating Alanna Rodgers, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4, at the No. 3 position.

The Lady Mavericks will be back in action March 5, when they travel to take on Houston First-serve is set for 1 p.m.
