ARLINGTON, Texas - The Texas-Arlington women's tennis team defeated #66 Louisiana-Lafayette, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Lady Mavericks who opened the season dropping seven of their first eight matches. They have responded by winning six straight matches.
Texas-Arlington (7-7) opened the match taking all three doubles matches to garner the doubles point. Junior Daniela Novakova and freshman Klara Jagosova ran their doubles record to 10-4, with an 8-6 victory over Tammy Day and Chanell Meijer at the number one position.
In singles play, Jagosova bested Clemence Remy, 6-2, 6-1, for her ninth straight singles victory. She now has a 11-3 record on the season. After opening the season 1-7, junior Simri van Rooyen has won six straight matches. That includes her victory Friday over Chanell Meijer, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4, at the number three position. Senior Anete Rozkalne also ran her match winning streak to five as she downed Kimmie Lyles, 7-5, 6-2, at the number five position.
The Lady Mavericks will be back in action Saturday, when they host SLC-foe Stephen F. Austin. First-serve is set for 11 a.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
