Box Score
Prior to Saturday, Courtni Anderson had hit two home runs in her 124-game college career.
But her second home run of the day - a two-run homer to right field - broke a 1-1 tie as UT Arlington defeated Louisiana-Monroe 3-1 to complete a doubleheader sweep in Southland Conference softball action at Allan Saxe Field Saturday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, Anderson hit a solo home run was all the Mavericks would need in a 2-0 win in game one of the twinbill.
"We move her around in the lineup and she had a couple of big at-bats," said UTA Head Softball Coach Debbie Hedrick. "(The games) were pretty, but we talked about coming in today and grabbing two wins and we did that. We can do a better job of hitting. We could have put a little space between us and them with a couple of hits, but we will try to bring our best effort tomorrow."
Sophomore pitcher Laura Jones (8-2) held ULM to two hits for the complete-game win.
Both teams scored a run in the first inning. Nicole Bethurum singled home Heather Hanson who opened the game reaching base on a catcher interference call on UTA's Lacey Leadbetter.
UTA answered when Katie Jones singled up the middle to score Jenna Fortune from third base. The Mavericks loaded the bases, but could not score when pinch hitter Amanda Brown popped out in the infield.
UTA continues its 10-game homestand Saturday when they conclude the series with ULM on Sunday at 1 p.m.
