Post-Game Quotes
UTA Head Coach Krista Gerlich
On the win ...
"Our kids did respond and started guarding better in the second quarter. Then our shots started to fall. We're just playing really tight right now, maybe of loss of a little confidence after our last two ballgames. I felt like Shelby [Richards] gave us a lot of energy and spring to her step that livened us up."
On forcing 27 ENMU turnovers and UTA's defensive performance ...
"That's huge for us because that's a big part of our game. We have to be able to turn people over to create some offense for us. I was proud of that stat and our defensive intensity. It helps when you value the ball and we don't give them extra possessions. I do feel like we missed so many early. It wasn't that we were turning the ball over, it was that we weren't making shots. When it's a perfect storm and we make shots and we don't turn the ball over, it's a nice team."
On Rebekah VanDijk moving into a tie for 10th in rebounds in UTA history ...
"She's been huge for us and I'm just so proud of everything she has accomplished. She's just a great kid and works hard, but she definitely gets us going and cleans the glass for us and that's a huge accomplishment early in her junior year."
On tonight's takeaway's moving forward ...
"We were able to turn them over in our press to create some easy shots, but we need to keep working on our pressing without fouling. Our execution still isn't good. We didn't rebound the basketball well in the first half, and obviously free throws are still an issue. It's focus at this point, and at some point it becomes mental when you continue to miss. They'll figure it out. They're good shooters."
"The two losses got our attention and we've struggled through some things, but that's part of the game and that's part of putting a team together that has seven new players. We have to keep working through adversity and how to put it together."
UTA Student-Athlete Quotes
#11, G, Shelby Richards
On her first double-digit scoring performance as a Maverick ...
"I played hard and it was a lot of fun to be out there on the court. They played really hard, too. We have to stay focused and come into the game giving every ounce you have on the court."
On having a week off before the next game ...
"We'll study a lot and get in the gym when we can. It's all about having good time management knowing you have time to do different things."
