ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington volleyball team picked up a second consecutive sweep and extended their winning streak to three matches, with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-14 win over App State on Saturday night (Oct. 13).

With the win, the Mavericks improve to 12-7 overall and 6-3 in Sun Belt action, while the Mountaineers fall to 13-7 on the season and 5-3 in league play.

Zhanelle Geathers finished with a match-high 10 kills in the win over Coastal. She also added a dig, three blocks and hit .429 in the match. Kylie Jedlicka added seven kills, four digs and three blocks, while Madison Hill finished with 10 digs, five kills and five blocks. Brooke Townsend chipped in with eight kills and hit .235, while Alex Janak finished with 15 assists and six digs.

The opening set was evenly played to start. With App State holding a slim 12-11 advantage, UTA used a 9-1 run to take a 20-13 lead and never looked back. The Mavs wrapped up the 25-19 win with a kill from Townsend.

UTA jumped out to a 14-7 lead to start the second set. Trailing the Mavs 17-10, the Mountaineers used a 4-0 run to climb back into the game (17-14) and force a timeout from UTA. The Mavericks would be unfazed and outscored App State 8-4 to close out the set and pick up a 25-18 win and grab a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

UTA continued their solid play to start the third set, sprinting to a quick 11-2 lead and forcing an App State timeout. The Mavs would coast to a 25-14 victory in the third set to complete the sweep.

The Mavericks will now hit the road for a pair of Sun Belt contests. UTA will head to Alabama for matchups at Troy (Oct. 19) and South Alabama (Oct. 20). First serve for both matches is set for 6:30 p.m.
