Mavs fly over Falcons in home opener

ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington sent its winning streak in home openers to 10 consecutive after a hot start propelled the Mavericks to a sweep over Air Force in Day 1 action of the 2018 Maverick Classic at College Park Center.

Behind a quick attack that was led by Madison Hill's team-high 12 kills, UTA improved to 1-3 on the season - opening the campaign on the road last weekend. The Mavericks continue action at home on Saturday with a pair of matches, taking on Loyola Maryland at 1:30 p.m. and Binghamton at 6:30 p.m.

With a rowdy 754 in attendance, UTA came out swinging to hit a smooth .211 on the attacking side compared to just .045 for the Falcons, helping the Mavs take the first set 25-20, replicating the result in the second behind a .286 attacking percentage and closed things out in the third with a late run that Air Force couldn't find an answer to.

POST GAME QUOTES
UTA head coach J.T. Wenger
"We did a lot of things well tonight and executed the game plan really well. Air Force team was hot coming out, playing two tough teams last week so it was a big step for our program to step up."

Was there a click point between the opening weekend and tonight?
"We played better and better every set last weekend, the outcomes didn't really show that but as a team we did a good job overall. It was good to be home and our crowd was fantastic, we really appreciate that and it helped contribute to our focus for us to play good volleyball."

Outside hitter Kylie Jedlicka
"It pushes us more (winning this opener). We love the feeling of winning and losing really sucks. That win gives us more confidence going into the next game.

About the loud crowd at College Park Center...
"Going on the road, it was really quiet and a lot different so having the energy out there really pumped us up and it was really nice."

On the support of the other UTA teams supporting the Mavericks...
"It feels really nice honestly. The whole family we have here at UTA is really nice and really close."

ON THE COURT LEADERS

Alex Janek was just two digs short of her third consecutive double-double, producing a team-high 16 assists with eight digs, while Jedlicka grabbed 10 digs on the defensive sid. Fellow setter Kylee Kapp tossed up 10 assists, adding four digs.
