Janak earns third double-double in win

ARLINGTON, Texas - With neither team finding a stride offensively, it was the defense that helped UT Arlington top Loyola Maryland 3-1 on Saturday at College Park Center. The Mavericks close out the Maverick classic at 6:30 p.m. against Binghamton with a win earning UTA the tournament title.

Madison Hill knocked down 13 kills as UTA's only attacker to reach double figures. The Mavs (2-3) would hit just .112 in the match, but held the Greyhounds (3-3) to just .040 offensively. UTA blocked nine attacks, three coming from Bre Walp. UTA appeared to be heading to another straight-set victory, sweeping Air Force on Friday night, but Loyola Maryland caught fire late in the third to steal the chance away. The Mavs broke open the fourth late in a 25-20 finale.

ON THE COURT LEADERS
Along with hill, Kylie Jedlicka had a solid game with seven kills. Jedlicka was second in the match with 15 kills, only behind Madelyn St. Germain's 17. Alex Janak secured her third double-double of the year with 14 digs and 11 assists, also knocking a match-high five aces on a powerful serve.

QUICK NOTES
UTA is 14-3 in its home-court opening tournaments dating back to moving into College Park Center in 2013... UTA improved to 1-0 all-time against the Greyhounds as the teams met for the first time... With Air Force taking a 3-0 win over Binghamton and going 3-1 vs. LMU, the Mavs will just need to secure a win to clinch the outright tournament title... Ann Ernst and Katie Forsythe were selected to the all-tournament team for the Greyhounds... The outcome of the tournament finale will decide the selections from Air Force, UTA and Binghamton.
