Geathers grabs 1,000-career kill in win at ULM

MONROE, La. - It was a historic day on the court for UT Arlington on Sunday. Senior Zhanelle Geathers became the 18th member of UTA's illustrious 1,000-kill club in a 3-1 victory over ULM at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Geathers needed just six kills entering the match against Warhawks, getting exactly that to put her in a club that contains All-Americans, NCAA Final Four members, conference players of the year and storied alumni of the Maverick program. Her sixth kill came during a crucial stretch of the fourth with the match in balance. The UTA win pushed the Mavericks to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in Sun Belt play. ULM went to 6-8 and 0-2 to start conference action.

UTA, bouncing back from a tough loss on Friday night, were able to build up a 2-0 set lead after the biggest set win of the campaign at 25-12 in the second. The Warhawks wouldn't let UTA get out of Louisiana with a sweep, but it was UTA to take momentum in the fourth with the late run to tip momentum in favor of the Mavs, 25-23.
