SAN MARCOS, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team (11-15, 2-3 SBC) used a six-run second inning to defeat the Texas State Bobcats (12-16, 3-5 SBC) 9-3 on Friday night at Bobcat Ballpark.
Kody Bullard (W, 4-2) started on the bump, tossing five innings in the win. The lefty allowed just one run off five hits while striking out four batters.
Jack Hagan and
Wyatt Divis came on in relief for Bullard, each throwing two innings. Hagan gave up two runs off two hits.
The Mavericks finished with 14 hits – the second most of the season.
Boone Montgomery led the squad with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, while scoring twice.

Andrew Miller and
Cason Gregory each finished with two-hits.
JD Wadleigh,
Connor Aube and
Anthony Dominguez finished two RBI.
The Mavericks got rolling early in the game, putting up six runs in the second inning. The first three batters reached base, with
Josh Minjarez driving in the first run with a single down the left field line.
Cason Gregory beat out a throw at first to load the bases.
With the bases loaded,
JD Wadleigh found the gap through the right side of the infield, driving his first two runs of the season. Gregory advanced to third base on a fielding error by the right fielder. Two pitches later, the ball flew to the backstop, allowing Gregory to cross home plate.
Connor Aube wrapped up the scoring with a two-run home run over the left field wall to make it 6-0.
The Bobcats got on the board in the third inning. The first three batters reached bases from singles, with the third batter knocking in one run.
With two outs in the fifth inning, Paul started a rally, singling to center field. Montgomery followed with a double to left field before Dominguez drove in both runners with a single to left center to put the Mavericks up seven runs.
An inning later
Andrew Miller connected on his third home run of the season with a blast over the left field wall into the softball field next door to make it a 9-1 game.
A leadoff walk in the 7
th inning gave the Bobcats a runner to start the inning. After a strikeout by Hagan, Jose Gonzalez hit a two-run home run over the right field wall to put the final two more runs on the board for Texas State.
