DeBerry, Van Klaveren Close Out NCAA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Seniors Bryson DeBerry and Lucas Van Klaveren closed out UT Arlington's appearance in the NCAA Indoor Championships after competing on Saturday morning at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

DeBerry placed ninth in the high jump at 2.15 meters, while Van Klaveren closed out the heptathlon with a 16th place finish with 5,597 points.

"Both Bryson and Lucas competed well among world class athletes," said Head Coach John Sauerhage. "I am proud of their effort this weekend and look forward to the outdoor season.:

DeBerry was strong to start in the high jump as he cleared both 2.10 and 2.15 on his first jump. However, DeBerry could not clear his third jump of 2.20 to finish tied for ninth place, likely earning All-American honors for the second season in a row in indoor competition.

On the other end, Van Klaveren opened the day with a 15th place finish in the 60 meter hurdles at 8.38 and followed that with an 11th place finish in the pole vault at 4.86. He closed his showing in the heptathlon with a 10th place finish in the 1000 meter with a time of 2:45.83.

One day earlier, Jade Bontke finished 13th overall in the penathlon as UTA's trio finished off a solid showing at the NCAA Championships.

The trio will join the rest of the team as they move into the outdoor season, which opened up today, and will look to make a return trip to the NCAA Championships.
