Jade Bontke and
Lucas Van Klaveren finished up an excellent showing at the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday afternoon at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Bontke set a new school record in the heptathlon with 5,506 points as she was outstanding on her second day of events. That point total would currently sit her 16th in the nation as it stands.
Bontke started the day with another incredible victory in jumps. One day after winning the high jump at 1.75, Bontke took first place in the long jump at 6.00 meters, breaking over six meters for the second straight meet.
Bontke followed with a 15th place finish in the javelin at 27.94, while closing the heptathlon strong with a fourth place finish in the 800 meter at 2:15.53.
Bontke is now the school record holder in both the pentathlon from the indoor season and the heptathlon.
Van Klaveren closed out his decathlon debut by crushing his personal best in the decathlon, going for 7,760 points, good for the second best result all time. His point total is good for fifth in the nation as it stands today.
Van Klveren opened the day with a 14.33 in the 110 meter hurdles, a new PR, and followed up with a ninth place finish in the discus at 38.49.
Van Klaveren cleared 4.60 in the pole vault and followed with a throw of 54.08 in the javelin. He closed the event with a new PR in the 1500 meter at 4:38.39 to finish the event strong.
Bontke and Van Klaveren as well as the rest of the Mavericks will return to action on April 22 and 23 for the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco.
