EUGENE, Ore. – Senior
Jade Bontke wrapped up the heptathlon and what was an incredible wek for the UT Arlington track and field team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field.
"I am so proud of the way all of our athletes competed all week long," said Head Coach
John Sauerhage. "We knew we could come in and score some points and to finish (25th) on the men's side and get valuable experience for our women really boded well for the future of our program."
A terrific week ended with Bontke wrapped up the heptathlon on Saturday and though it was not the result she wanted, Bontke still came away finishing 19th in the nation with 5,300 points.
She opened the day in the long jump and connected on her final attempt with a leap of 5.71m (18-8¾) to place 13th. On a wet, windy day, she struggled in the javelin later in the afternoon with a throw of 25.75m (84-5¾), but finished strong in the 800 meter with a time of 2:19.83 to place ninth.

With the four day event concluding, UTA boasts a ton of positives from the week, including a 25th place finish by the men with three individuals earning podiums, nine different athletes competing in seven different events, and four All-Americans being named including three first teamers.
Bryson DeBerry,
Arthur Petersen, and
Lucas Van Klaveren all earned the nod as first teamers, which is the first time in each of their careers. DeBerry is now a four time All-American, while Petersen and Van Klaveren earn their second nods, the first in the outdoor season for Van Klaveren.
Joel Bengtsson earned Second Team All-American honors, his first time earning a spot on the team in his career.
The Mavericks 2021-22 season comes to a close, but UTA will have numerous athletes competing around the globe throughout the summer, including
Iyana Gray returning to Hayward Field to compete in the U20 Championships in two weeks.
