MBB: Mavs Add North Texas Transfer Tyran Mason

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's basketball announced Wednesday that head coach KT Turner has signed North Texas transfer G Tyran Mason.
 
Mason played in four games during his freshman season at North Texas, averaging 4.0 points per game and one board per game, while shooting 45.5% from the floor in 7.5 minutes per contest for the Mean Green. He scored a season-high eight points in a win over Mississippi Valley on Dec. 18 and six points in his collegiate debut in a win over Wayland Baptist on Nov. 7.

Mason graduated from Plano High School in 2024 and was originally rated a 3-star prospect per 247Sports out of high school. He was a two-time district offensive MVP and first team all-district selection as well as a two-time Academic All District honoree. As a senior he led all DFW Area boys basketball in scoring average (25.3 ppg), while also pulling down 7.5 rebounds per game and dishing out 1.4 assists per game. His 25.3 points per game were a school record at Plano High School
 
Born in Vichy, France, Mason was a 2024 Dallas Morning News Third Team All-Area Selection and he led Plano HS to a 64-47 win over the nation's No. 23 ranked team, Lake Travis, with a 25-point performance. Mason also led Plano HS to a win over the state's No. 11 ranked team, Lewisville, with 27 points and 14 rebounds. A 2024 McDonald's High School All American nominee, Mason concluded his high school career with a 40-point performance in a 76-59 win over rival Plano West. He also played for Tyrese Maxey's AAU team Max Levels Elite.

 
Mason joins high school signees Jordan Lowery, Amari Reed and transfers Marcus Rigsby, Jr. (Troy) and Nathan Ojukwu (Northwest Florida State College) as new additions to the Mavs' roster ahead of the 2025-26 season.
