LAFAYTTE, La. — UT Arlington defeated Jackson State 3-0 on Friday, sweeping the sets 25-20, 25-20, 25-19. The Mavericks hit .282 with 41 kills and 13.0 blocks while holding Jackson State to .080 hitting and 32 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks moved in front 5-2 in the opening set after a block by Sophia Krichev and Mazi Smith, a solo block by Krichev and a Krichev kill, but Jackson State came back to tie it at 6-6. After the teams traded points to 10-10, Smith's kill started a UTA push that included a block by Evyn Snook and Sophia Krichev and another by Snook, giving the Mavericks a 13-10 lead. The Tigers cut the margin to 16-15 on a Katejion Robinson kill and a Naija Gadis ace, but UTA answered with a Sophia Krichev-Lucy Tricco block and later used kills by Camryn McMinn, Evyn Snook and McMinn to move ahead 20-16. The Mavericks stayed in front down the stretch, reached set point at 24-19 on a Jackson State attack error and closed the set 25-20 on an Evyn Snook kill from Tricco.

UTA opened the second set with six straight points on kills by Camryn McMinn, Evyn Snook, Smith and Hana Aiana, plus a block by Aiana and Smith, and later pushed the lead to 8-1 on another Smith kill. After Jackson State worked back within 13-8, Tricco's serving helped the Mavericks score four straight points, including a Smith-Aiana block, a Tricco ace and a Smith kill, to move ahead 18-8. Jackson State cut into the margin with an extended run from 21-10 to 21-18 behind kills by Katejion Robinson and Shelby Zanders and Mavericks attack errors. Smith stopped the run with a kill, Snook added kills for 23-18 and 24-20, and Sophia Krichev's block closed the set at 25-20.

The Mavericks trailed 7-6 in the third set before Evyn Snook's kill tied it, and the UTA moved in front as Sophia Krichev and Tricco combined on a block during a stretch that carried them to an 11-8 lead. After the Tigers stayed within 14-12, Smith's kill started another Mavericks push that included a Camryn McMinn ace and helped build the margin to 17-12. UTA kept separation at 20-16 on another Snook kill, then added three straight points, including a block by Emilee Sikora and Hana Aiana, to reach 23-16. Sikora's kill put the Mavericks at set point, and after Jackson State scored twice, Smith finished the set with a kill from Tricco for a 25-19 win.

• The Mavericks led in every statistical category except total errors.
• Evyn Snook led the game in kills (14) and points (16), while Hana Aiana led the game in hitting percentage (.714).
• Mazi Smith led the game with 26 attacks, while Samantha Glenn led the game in digs (16).
• Lucy Tricco led the game in assists with 37, and Sophia Krichev led the game in blocks (7).
