April 16, 2005

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Texas - Stephen F. Austin used timely hitting and limited the Lady Maverick's offense as it upended host Texas-Arlington 4-1 in game two of a Southland Conference doubleheader Saturday evening at Allan Saxe Field. UTA edged the Ladyjacks in game one, 4-3.

The loss drops UTA to 15-22 overall and 11-11 in the SLC while the Ladyjacks improve to 16-26 and 8-15 in the league.

Tara Hersey gave the Ladyjacks an early 1-0 advantage after connecting for a two-out RBI triple off the wall in center field.

Ladyjack center fielder Carrie Woydziak robbed the Lady Mavs of a run in the first, throwing a strike to catch Kristin Moore at the plate. Moore reached on a fielder's choice and advanced on back-to-back singles by Dee Jay Nelson and Autumn Petrino.

SFA added another two-out run to its total as Sydney Rutherford's bloop single plated Jessica Tullos who doubled earlier.

The Lady Mavericks got a run back in the home half of the second as Jenna Fortune reached and advanced to second on a SFA throwing error. Amanda Swofford singled up the middle to put runners on the corners and Lacey Leadbetter plated the run with a sacrifice fly to right center field.

Kristina Swart led off the SFA third with a bunt single and stole two bases before coming home on a Hersey infield single to push the Ladyjacks lead to 3-1.

The Ladyjacks pushed their advantage to three as Ragen Rutherford scored on Lacey Leadbetter dropped ball at the plate.

Nicki Wilson (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on four hits in just 1.2 innings of work. Garro entered with two out in the top of the second and held the Ladyjacks to seven hits and two runs (one earned) over the final 5.1 innings.

Julie Morse earned the win for SFA, improving to 5-7 after holding UTA to just one run on five hits in 3.0 innings.

Nelson and Petrino paced the Lady Mavericks offensively with two hits apiece.
